Presentation Title: A Middle Eastern Perspective of the Malware Landscape

Code Red, Nimda, Blaster, Slammer… all threats discovered because of their massive impact on the Internet. But what of the thousands of other threats which are on a smaller scale but are disruptive? In this talk we will take a deep look into Microsoft’s Anti-Malware telemetry, paying particular attention to the countries of the Middle East. We will look at the different categories of threats, the impact of operating system version on susceptibility to malicious software and regional differences in the propagation of specific malware.

Tareq Saade, a former Dubai resident, is a program manager on the Microsoft Security Research & Response team. MSRR is responsible for creating technology around the collection and consumption of telemetry from a wide variety of Microsoft security technologies including SpyNet which Tareq helped build.
