Presentation Title: Spam goes VOIP – Number Harvesting for Fun and Profit
Presentation Details:

Email spam is world wide issue. Sources estimate 80% of email traffic is spam. While ISPs and endusers got accustomed to spam and developed sophisticated countermeasures VoIP spam is an as of now nonexisting problem. SPIT (Spam over IP Telephony) received lots of attention in the media but since the underlying technolgy is different ISPs cannot apply the same filters to protect their networks and users. The talk describes a crucial prerequisite to SPIT in detail, namely Number Harvesting. Number Harvesting is the collection of numbers or strings that represent parties on a VoIP network. Sources for Number Harvesting are revealed and methods to verify and enhance the information gathered will be given. Some live demos round off the presentation.
