Presentation Title: NGN Security - Next Generation Nightmare
Presentation Details:
Mobile network operators have been enjoying exponential growth over the last 10 years. There are now 2.5 billion mobile phone subscribers worldwide, considerably more than Internet users. However, operators now face multiple challenges. Price wars are eroding their profits. Emergent technologies such as VoIP, WiFi and WiMAX and threatening their business models. To answer those threats, those operators are now pushing for new concepts such as IMS and NGN. However, in their rush to protect their turf, operators often overlook the security of their networks. Today’s operators are relying on the closed nature of their systems to ensure their security. Operators will keep trying to convince the public that “now, we are secure”. This paper will try to illustrate why this closed approach is ultimately doomed, and why telcos will soon suffer constant public humiliation in the face of increasingly sophisticated attacks.
