Presentation Title: Telecom Fraud
Presentation Details

Starting from the early days of boxing and analogue mobile phone phreaking, David talks about the evolution and driving factors that are bringing the latest set of threats to not only the operators, but anyone with a phone line. During his presentation he will be covering items such as c7 signaling phreaking on Satellite, new boxing techniques, the undocumented features of voice mail systems, PABX fraud and the joys of VoI call centers (partly stolen from Grugq at HITB Malaysia 2006)! Plus any new topics that come up between now and the conference in the world of mobile fraud.

About David

David Michaux is CEO and founder of SCANIT Middle East, the region’s most reputable auditor of IT security. David’s responsibilities cover the strategic direction of the Dubai Internet City-based firm, its business expansion and regional alliances. He also manages day-to-day operations, oversees financial control, plus directs the firm’s critical research and development activities.

Michaux leap into his business career by joining Belgium’s state telecommunications provider, Belgacom, as junior security engineer, where he was quickly promoted to the head of a new, internal team called Scanit. Created in 1999 by former members of the Protection and Prevention department at Belgacom, SCANIT’s initial task was to conduct technical audits on Belgacom’s complex telecommunications and IT infrastructure prior to privatization of the country’s telecommunications market.

Within a year, as CEO David helped spin-off Scanit from Belgacom and had so impressed the company’s former parent with the scope and quality of Scanit’s work that Belgacom took a 49 percent stake in the new firm. By 2002, Michaux had taken a keen interest in the fast-growth Middle East market, with Dubai at its commercial hub. Michaux plans to develop a series of strategic partnerships and alliances across the region that will help bolster the company’s security services with government bodies, telecommunication companies and small and medium enterprises. To date these alliances include a milestone partnership with Symantec, the UAE’s telecommunication company Etisalat (ECompany) and the Omani telecommunications provider, Omantel. These alliances were a key driving force behind Scanit’s regional and international expansion.
