Overview

The 4th annual HackWEEKDAY developer hackathon is back once again and the search for Asia’s next generation developer continues. Held over a 2-day period (8 hours per day),  HackWEEKDAY at HITBSecConf2014 – Malaysia offers not only offers some awesome prizes but more importantly it’s a chance for you to show off your development skills on an international stage.

Over the past 3 years, we’ve seen several great projects with a majority of them managing to turn their initial ideas into full blown working demos. Some of these are:

Social Mapper – a social networking app with augmented reality

Scope:

•    Security / networking related topics (technical / social engineering / software / hardware)

•    E-commerce (food, fashion, sports, musics, travel, and etc.)

•    Education (digital, gaming, smart learning, and etc.)

•    Social Networking (social gathering for geeks, social gaming, social learning, etc.)

•    Automation using hardware+software (home automation, haze detector, etc.)

Targeted platforms/ Challenges:

•    The functionality of a web browser (Firefox, Fennec, Chrome/Chromium, etc) by the means of either add-ons, plugins and/or custom build.
•   Standalone applications and/or mobile related applications (Windows Phone Apps/ Windows Apps / Android / Firefox OS / IOS / J2ME / Symbian etc)

Categories:  

PROFESSIONAL / HACKERS – Developers, enthusiasts, hackers from the industry.

STUDENTS – Undergraduate/ Postgraduate Students from any higher education institutions in the Asia Pacific region. Entries should be in a group of 4 [3 students + 1 lecturer/mentor (required if team is from outside of Malaysia) from their respective institutions].

Note: Participants are required to bring their own laptops / tools to help them develop the applications / ideas during the event.

Accepted participants to the HackWEEKDAY will also receive:

  • 1 x complimentary pass to HITBSecConf2014 on the 15th & 16th of October (valued at MYR1599)
  • Access to the HackWEEKDAY ‘arena’ (Food and drinks provided over the 24-hour period)
  • Access to #HITB2014KUL’s high-speed fiber internet
